RAD PDF 5.8 Released

Red Software is proud to announce RAD PDF 5.8, the newest release of its ASP.NET WebControl, a drop-in component for PDF reading, PDF form filling, PDF editing, PDF redaction, PDF signing, PDF content protection, and more. Compatible with .NET Framework 3.5 to ASP.NET 11, RAD PDF continues to have wider platform and browser support than any other web-based PDF editor.

Version 5.8 adds support for Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG). SVG images can be converted to PDF or added to the pages of PDF documents like other image types (e.g. PNG, JPEG). SVG images are loaded as vector data and their output to PDF retains the original image quality, even when zoomed in.

FDF and XFDF data can now be imported to a PDF document instance. FDF and XFDF are long time standards for storing and transmitting the form field values of a PDF. RAD PDF now natively supports exporting to and importing from these formats. This feature includes support for common CJK encodings and Unicode / UTF-8 values.

This release also includes a new option to rebuild PDF form field appearance streams. PDF files with damaged appearances in one or more fields can now have all streams rebuilt on save.

PDF JavaScript support was also enhanced, adding basic support for scripts which change the "display" value of a PDF form field, allowing for elements of a form to be dynamically shown / hidden. This includes limited support for Hide Actions which are sometimes used in older PDF forms.

Additionally, this build includes a number of bug fixes, including a font substitution fix for forms using some CJK fonts.

This update is available free of charge to all customers with an active Maintenance Plan or Subscription.
